BREAKING NEWS!

Could cell phones be allowed back in school? I don't know about you guys but that's the question on my mind right now. They took away cell-phones in... 2010, if my memory serves me correctly and man, was it difficult. I don't know about the rest of you guys, but I need a phone specifically to do phone-related stuff, like to call my parents or to ask something from someone in the school when I don't know where they are. Beats waiting at the bus stop forever because the timing is wrong or having to go look everywhere for said person and waste time.

Call me old, but phones with WiFi, Facebook and the huge touch screens with the big megapixels, and the Angry Pigs or whatever it is everyone's playing these days doesn't mean crap to me. I guess it's just a matter of personal taste (I prefer buttons to touch screens, by the way). Should they be allowed in school? My answer is a huge "YES!!!" because it's just more convenient, especially for those like me who have to rely solely on vehicular transport from one place to another because of distance complications. There's supposed to be some place where you can log onto, a blog of some sort to place your vote in a poll, but unfortunately, everyone was just babbling too loudly this morning for me to catch it. I have more important things to do than look around the internet for the site so DO IT YOURSELF! -lol. (Funny, how when you add "lol" at the end of a sentence, no matter how serious, it makes everything seem all light hearted.)

Also, we're all very busy here ramping up our game. Everything, projects and initiatives and all are in pre-production as of now. Like I always say, please keep an eye out for us because we'll be doing some super epic stuff this year. I mean, it's the final year for some of us, and we want to make it count! We'll be doing sales, some other marketing gimmicks and maybe some other stuff too, but that's all I know right now, so if you want to know just what exactly we have in plan, just stay tuned.

Oh, and before I log off, we're proud to announce we finally have a board! A notice board, if you didn't catch that! It's located on the top floor, near the LEO, Interact and Scout's board, if I'm not mistaken. Monthly slots will be posted there, specially for those who just don't seem to have a need for email or Facebook. Other things of significance will be posted there too. This is rather short but thanks for reading anyway.

The Binary Universe

Hi people! Autornative here and with my first ever album review. Well today's review is BT’s (Brian Wayne Transeau) "This Binary Universe", his fifth studio album, released back in 2006 on both CD and DVD. It features an interesting blend of glitch, orchestral , electronica and ambient music. The DVD version is one being reviewed here and I recommend good headphones to go with it to fully appreciate the DTS 5.1 surround mastering ( if don’t have a good pair , there is also a stereo sound option ) . But enough about that, here is the play list and my view on the tracks:

 1. All That Makes Us Human Continues
 - Truly a great intro and at same time, a track which clearly contrasts with BT’s masterful use of the shutter edit. The elementals of the track are nicely produced and the track has a slight melancholic yet hopeful feel. I like the way the guitar lines up with the glitch elementals and the bells. (4/ 5 )

2. Dynamic Symmetry
- Something more ambient and at the same time, resembling electronica. A flavored track with a slight touch of glitch. This is more energetic than the previous track which I say is a good choice. It has interesting use of samples recorded from sea gulls and has an almost lounge-ish feel midway
into the track. Refreshing to listen to, and preparing you for what’s to come. ( 3.5/ 5 )

3. The Internal Locus - Named after internal locus of control (I believe), this track has two sides to it. Starting off with rain then progressing into some more like marching music with cheery sounds and drum rolls but then it slowly makes it way to the other side (which is rather short) of the track filled glitch and ending with an ambient interlude. ( 3.5 / 5 )

4. 1.618
- 1.618 is the golden ratio(that is interestingly used in the track) which is a ratio which not only fascinated mathematicians like Pythagoras , Euclid and Roger Penrose but biologist , artist , musicians and architects alike and this track I would say does some justice to it . Taking a darker stance, with a little guitar to compliment, then changing into a more ambient and beautiful track with a sad yet slightly epic feel (an epic feeling which is a bit present in the track but not overpowering) . ( 4/ 5 )

5. See You On The Other Side
- Mystical and somewhat melancholic with hopeful and cheery undertones. This track aptly follows 1.618 as a sort of afterglow. This track tells a story of regret, but yet at the same time gratitude, for those who have passed on. All of the elements fit nicely and it does its purpose. An easy track to listen to and to reminisce while alone, this track is one of my favorites of this album. ( 4.5 / 5 )

6. The Antikythera Mechanism
- Named after the oldest known complex scientific calculator, this is another beautiful tune accented with a piano and a filled the sense of wonder with a slight undertone of mystery. This track's guitar stutter edit serves as the main menu track for the DVD and when you hear it, the mystery becomes even more complex and a tense sensation comes in, then it drops back into the flows of piano and adventure but this time, it's accompanied with glitch elements; finally building up into an anthemic tune with some glitch parts. (4 / 5 )

7. Good Morning Kaia
This time this tune is a bit more personal, a tune dedicated to his daughter Kaia. I won’t say much of this track since I will let you this decide on this tune. ( ? / 5 )

Overall This Binary Universe is not only an album but also an audio sculpture (if you want to get all artsy) complimenting this grammy nominated artist's past. I cannot stress how enjoyable this listen was. As I mainly focus on the music I cannot rate the videos that go with the music on the DVD version. The best place to get this would be any good online retailer (if you are the kind that legally gets their music) though I am not sure if they keep 5.1 surround sound. Listening to this in stereo downgrades the clarity and experience. Musically interesting and entertain this album requires patience and a certain taste but may fall short in some areas when it comes to execution in some tracks (which I won’t describe for simplicity sake’s). A true masterpiece in synthesis and modern composition, I give it a 4.5 / 5 as it just below perfect .

Results of the Interview

Well, looks like the interviews have been concluded. The counters have closed and we're looking forward to grading the candidates. *MUHAHAHAHAHAHA ~ Ahem, sorry.

For those that went for the interview, do check your email inbox for news from us during the holidays. Well, I guess that's that for you guys. Also, for those of you who missed it, we're sorry to say that we've officially concluded these rounds of interviews for now. New sessions might be conducted sometime in May, catering especially for the Form 3 and Lower 6 students. Do stay tuned and remember, we're always in need of dedicated members.
Now, for those of you awaiting the results, do keep in mind that we'll be evaluating your performance very carefully and the results will be closed to everyone but the top guys in Seafield.FM. Heck, even I don't know how anyone did and I was there helping with the interviews (so don't ask me). In the mean time, don't stress yourselves out! It's the holidays and tis the time for family and some other festive stuff.

If you didn't make it, please take it as a lesson to improve yourselves. Remember, failure is the mother of success and you're welcome to come try out again! But for those of you that did make it, welcome aboard! We'll brief you on your duties to the club as soon as the school reopens. Until then, please do enjoy yourselves this Chinese New Year/Holidays.

We're Back, Now Better Than Ever!

What's up peeps! You know, it's just US, being awesome as usual because we're all incredible like that!

It's been a while since the last post but HUGE updates in store both on the web and in real life so do keep an eye on things. ;) *see what I did there? I used a "wink" emoticon thing, so it's going to be all suggestive and all! Not in that way...

You may have heard but in case you haven't, we're in the midst of upgrading well... basically EVERYTHING about Seafield.FM. We are no longer going to be that morning radio show, and instead, we're moving on to become SMK Seafield's mass communication club! It means covering things like important events, current issues, as well as playing all your favorite music! ;) * "winked" again!

Yes, our ambitions are big and some of you may be asking, "just where are the resources for pulling all of this off?" Well, here's the bad news. We don't have any! Nil! Zit! (Zit?) I'm hoping I won't ruffle anyone's feathers in the club but our current budget as of Wednesday is... Wait for it...

- three ringgit. You may laugh now.

Done yet? Good. As such, we're going to be doing a whole bunch of stuff to garner revenue as well as publicity! Because we're all LOA like that... (Lack Of Attention. See? You learned something new today!)

So this is going to be a quick reminder to get all of you guys pumped up for the NEW Seafield.FM. Oh, and I'm sorry, I tend to babble and totally miss out on points but regarding the resources thing, unfortunately, it isn't only monetary. In case you haven't noticed, WE'RE IN NEED OF MEMBERS!

... for Seafield.FM! (because I'm too lazy to edit pictures... OKAY! I CAN'T edit pictures, but I'll learn! Eventually...)

Interviews will be carried out soon so stay tuned! ;) Priority will be given to the Form 3, 4 and 6 students as they will be carrying on the baton, so to speak. Also, I'll be needing someone to replace me when the year's up, or better yet! Help me with my slack and update the blog every now and then!

Because thinking of stuff to write is difficult... (HAHA! JK! I can write freely without so much as a pause like Stephen freaking KING! Okay, I apologize for my narcissism. That was completely unnecessary.)

Ahem, back to the topic of recruits, you guys will need to embody everything that is Seafield.FM: a fun club of guys who just can't shut up, kinda like Interact but with a slight shortage of those oh-so-popular dudes. Think you can do it? Don't think you can do it? Fret not! Here at Seafield.FM, we're a family and families... I dunno, wasn't really thinking when I said that, but you get the point, we're all very close and we lurve each other.

Training will be provided to ensure that you'll stay confident on air! We'll guide you through to sounding as cool and hip as those guys on Hitz or whatever everyone's listening to these days! Vital training for later life when you have to deliver a keynote or presentation to some Japanese investors.

You can't honestly "um," or "er," when you're standing in a boardroom as classy as this, can you? Especially when that Mercedes company car and that big fat raise is on the line. We're here to help!

Sorry about ending it here, I really have to get to class. Hey, I'm a regular kid just like everyone else! I have things to do too!

PMR results and 2012

PMR results this year will be released on the 22nd and I'm very sure that most of you are already sweating to fight off those nerves and anxiety. Here's one thing that you should know, as of 2012, your PMR results will be nothing but the past and it won't be much help anymore. The next matter would be choosing which stream to study in.

Today, I'm going share with you my personal experience of my form 4 journey.

Choosing the right stream for you really depends on what you want and plan to do in the future. Understand that SPM is the equivalent to the British O Levels. Basically your high school finishing exams. To make a decision, you have to understand and know what are your objectives. Do you wish to learn and understand your subjects, or are you studying for the sake of good grades? Do not be ambitious and egoistic. Be REALISTIC.
Recognize your strength and weaknesses. In PMR, what did you enjoy studying? Which subjects came naturally to you and what did you pick up easily? Let's break things down. Take it easy and understand the subjects you're going to be studying.

In each package/ stream, you will be taking a total of 9 subjects. 5+4.
5 subjects are your core subjects which comprises :

  • BM
  • English
  • Modern Math
  • History
  • Pend. Agama Islam / Moral
4 subjects will be the subjects packaged according to your streams. For students sitting for SPM in 2012, the streams were organized in such :
Pure Science - Chemistry, Biology, Physics and Add Math
Sub Science 1 - Chemistry, Physics, Add Math, ICT
Sub Science 2 - Chemistry, Physics, Add Math, Accounts
Arts 1 - Accounts, Add Math, Economy and Science
Arts 2 - Economy, Commerce (perdagangan), Geography and Science
Arts 3- Economy, Commerce, Visual Arts and Science

Science stream subjects are very detailed and requires you to have some level of mathematical standards. Each topic are almost inter-related (especially add math) which requires you to understand earlier chapters before you can move forward to the next chapter. Focuses on micro understanding
The arts stream subjects have fewer chapters but are somewhat lengthy. The subjects in the arts stream are less detailed and there are lots of concepts and over all things you need to remember. The subjects are designed to prepare you for further studies in the economical and business sector. The arts stream subjects is what I would say, interactive to daily life and how you take systems around you and understand it. Focuses on macro understanding.

People in Malaysia have this stigma whereby studying in the science stream means you're great and all mighty. People also assume that the subjects studied in the science stream is more superior than the arts stream just because the arts stream is apparently 'easier'. The difficulty level of a subject is really determined by the individual's ability to take onto a certain subject. As mentioned earlier, know your strengths and weaknesses. If you've had problems with subjects like science and mathematics in PMR, then the science stream may be a struggle. If you've had problems with subjects like history, geography and KH, then the arts might not be a good choice for you. I'm not trying to discourage, demoralize or scare you from trying, but that's how it is. Some people are just not cut out for certain subjects, be it arts or science related.

Lets address those students who wish to study in the arts and cannot make up their minds. I know many students, friends, peers, etc. who wish to study in the arts stream but forced themselves to study in the Science instead, suffering and cursing all the way. It is okay to be in the arts stream. If you want to study those subjects, don't give yourself excuses or reasons to stop yourself. All those other people out there telling you what to do, they're not taking the exams and studying for you. You have to enjoy doing what you do.

In my case, I studied in the science stream all the way until September and switched after the Raya holidays. I'm much happier now and I do wish that I'd just listened to myself and switched to the arts stream earlier in the year instead of cramming 9 months of syllabus to rush for my end year exams. In my case, my first official exam for my new stream were the finals. It took me a good 3 months of thinking over and over if I wanted to switch and start over or keep pushing on studying in something I did not have the interest of doing. Yes, if you look at it, I did waste lots of time. But I'd rather have wasted all that time than to keep pushing on in the science stream and hating it. (I had issues with add math and Physics, whereas Bio and Chem were subjects I loved) Because of those two subjects, I swapped anyway. It was an experience I find worth sharing.

I got a lot of different reactions and opinions when I changed streams, most of them were shocked, some of them who understood me were relieved, some thought that this will be the end, some agreed, some didn't. After all that, I realized that people forget after awhile anyway. What I'm trying to say here is, don't bother what people have to say about you. Listen to yourself.

Reasons that I (most likely you will use as well) made my deliberation process so darn long.

"But I can't do anything science related anymore!"
Sometimes your strengths and weaknesses are in different places.
"Fewer career options!"
There are many career options in relations to the art stream.
"People will think I'm stupid"
You're taking the exams, not them.
"My friends are in the science stream!"
If they really are your friends, they will understand and accept you for who you are.
"Art stream students are less smart laaa"
There are plenty of smart art stream people. What type of smart are you talking about? Academical or street smart?
"Art stream students play a lot and don't do their work"
It's really almost the same in the science stream. In fact, they're so good in their studies they almost don't pay attention in class and just play.. of course, which distracts others even more.
"I don't want to be labelled as 'taking the easy way out'"
All subjects have their own challenges in their own way. Taking the easy way out is copying homework and answers during exams.

If enough of you art stream gifted people are daring enough to make a move to the arts and forget about all those doubts, the arts stream would be a more popular choice. Right now, stigma and peer pressure are most probably the two main reasons why so many are still in the science stream when they know they would do better in the art stream. My friends in the art stream are no less talented, academically competent and witty as those who are in the science stream. It took me so much trouble and time to realize that I've been making excuses because I was simply just scared of what people would think about me.

Form four year is the year of many challenges. Time management has to be the key. You will discover yourself. Your friends.

Bottom line : Do things according to your own abilities.
